What of me now?

by Jem Croucher

So now I am sixty
what of me now?
Do I wither, slip slowly away
Do I hold up a hand
resolute to my lot
to let youth in its turn have a say?

Far from it I cry
for I have a voice

I’ve put in the years
shed blood, sweat and tears
and still I am ready for more

There’s life in me yet
in abundance I’d say
I’ve a lot more to give and to do
So though I am ageing
I’ve get up and go
and the doldrums I’ll always eschew

So now I am sixty
What of me now?
I suspect it’s the best you’ll have seen
For I’ve years in the making
which is all now for taking
and to showcase all that has been
