Poetic Licence

by Jem Croucher

And here I am again
with a pint at Ye Olde Trippe
Waxing lyrical I write
as rain goes ‘drip, drip, drip’
Poetic license there you say
well yes, I quite agree
but as it rhymes I added it
with (I’ll admit) a ‘tee tee hee’

And who’s to say that poets
in this Inn across the years
have not o’er wine and victuals
and merriment and beers
not added similar to their verse
when writing here a ditty
that brings a smile to readers
who find it rather witty?
