The wilfulness of Apples

by The Cheesesellers Wife

A breeze ripples pinkwhite blossom
stars lean down from space

as winter chill returns
petals fall as snow

frail in spring yet
robust thereafter

apples will not breed true
are kept captive by grafting

strive ever to return to
wilful wildness
