Fences of Time

by Venkat

he dug them straight
fences of time
with granite hands
fences of time
no shadows to bend
no stars to spare

fences of time
too long for pigeons
too short for wolves
painted too deep

fences of time
bled from the bars
of feathered memory
till their hearts rolled up
into hisses for the moon
