Lying on her side
Gazing at me as we
Gazing at me as we
Talk,
She listens, I speak,
Watching her eyes
Dip closed
Fluttering awake
Struggling to spend time with
Me
Before her day ends.
I want to draw her close,
Whisper “good night” in her ear
And spoon her through to
The morning,
But the metal/plastic/glass box
Won’t allow that.
I wake her up
Wish her good night
Then end the call.
