INNOCENT DAYS ARE GONE

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

Oh, For The Bliss
Of Childhood
When We Knew
Nothing
Of The World
And The Way
It Worked

While We
Engaged
In Learning,
Reading
Writing, And
‘Rthimetic
And The Simple Joys
From Simple Toys
And Discovering
Magic
Fantasy
And The Great Outdoors

When We Learned
Of Family
And Friends
Music
Art
And
Poetry,
And
Stories
From Books
And Movies

There’s A Certain
Sentimental Feeling
We Keep In Our Heart’s
About Those
Innocent Days
And Old Fashioned Ways
From The Bygone Era
Of Our Childhood

We Never Knew
Back Then How Much
Of The Truth
About The World
We Were Shielded From
While We Grew
Into Adulthood

It’s Wonderful
To Have Treasured
Memories
To Look Back On

Especially Now
That Innocent Days
Are Gone
And Many Moons
Have Passed
Since The Season
Of Childhood

The World
Has Turned
Too Many
Times
For Us
To Be Innocent,
We Know Too Much
We Know The Truth
