strong they said, as ivory on feet
strong they said, in marble
strong was the way to be

strong, so strong
words of iron, eyes lethal
locomotive’s breath

a ring of steel, to be
grips, historians may write
every touch wears a ring
what I see, lives in steel

nights chained in words
love written in claws

strong they said, shine and clear
made but in glass
strong they said, softens me not
to melt my steel

to see you as you are
