A GRACE NOTE IN MY LIFE

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

Working On The Road
With The Band
On A Two Week Tour
It Was The Last Stop
Before Heading Home

A Small Town Bar
In Eastern Oregon
With A Fun Crowd
And A Barkeep
That Was The Devil’s Angel

I Took My Breaks
At The Bar
With Gracie
Refilling My Glass
With Iced Tea
A PHOTO OF GRACIE

Our Chit-Chat
And Banter Was
Fun And Flirtatious
But Seemed Harmless
Well, Sort Of

Until I Found
Myself Staring
Into Her Eyes
Transfixed
And Enthralled,
With Her Staring
Back At Me
With No Intention
Of Looking Away
LOOKING INTO HER EYES

To This Day
I’m Still Not Sure
What Our Eyes
Told Each Other

But What Ever
It Was,
It Started
A Fire In Me
That She Didn’t
Back Away From

After Last Call
And Closing
I Looked Around
And The Place
Was Empty
Except
For The Two Of Us

She Hit A Tune
On The Jukebox
And Said It Was
Her Favorite One

And Grabbed
My Hand As She
Went By Toward
The Dance Floor
SLOW DANCING GRACIE

It Was A Slow Romantic
Song That I Can’t Remember
Maybe Because I Was
Holding Her In My Arms

 And Loving The Sway
Of Our Bodies
Against Each Other
And The Tenderness
Of Her Hand Touching Mine
SLOW DANCE

As The Song Ended
She Whispered
“Come Drive Me Home
I’m Feeling A Little
Lonely Tonight
And Your Eyes
Told Mine
You Are Too.”

From That Moment On
There Was No Turning Back
And Her Sweet Kisses
And Passion Through
The Night Made Me
Curse The Morning Sun
I CURSE THE SUN - WITH YOU IN MY ARMS

In The Course Of
A Lifetime A 3 Day Stop
In A Small Town
In Eastern Oregon
Is A Grace Note
In The Symphony
Of One’s Life
A Small Moment Of Time

But 3 Days Of Loving Gracie
Was A Glimpse Of Heaven,
Before Being Forced
Back To A Reality
Without A Way
To Keep That
Angel
In My Life

But She Is A Memory
I Play In My Mind
Each Night

A Grace Note
In My Life
My Heart
Loves To Hum
