Nesting

by Jem Croucher

In the barren forsythia a house has appeared
built by an industrious sparrow
with twigs, grass and straw a nest has been made
between the branches narrow

There aren’t any babies in there just yet
but I guess it won’t be that long
Til more feathered friends in my garden I’ll see
to add to that sweet morning song
