By Charles Robert Lindholm
I can sit in the silence
and remember
the moment
you told me
you were ready
to move on
to your
next life
I didn’t know
what you meant
and so you had
to tell me outright
that you believed
in reincarnation
and that you wanted
your new life to start
now
deliberately
spoken
a matter
of fact
that just
hadn’t happened
yet
I know
there was nothing
we could have done
because we tried
It’s only when
I sit in silence
and remember
that I wonder
what it would
have been like
to have had
you in my life
all these many
years
I think
of all we
missed
and it
brings tears
to my eyes
for the might
have beens
and joys
we never knew
It always
makes me sad
to think of those
who have loved ones
taken
unwillingly
while you
and others
leave by choice
I sit in silence
and remember
as I listen to
my heart
softly
crying
