By Charles Robert Lindholm

My mind
is way too rigid
holding childish impulses
in check,
you know the silly kind?

My heart
and soul
resist formality,
“mind control”
They wander away
during the day
to the secret place
only they
know about

They sing and play
in daydreams
where they can
be silly and boisterous
and laugh at my mind’s
plotting and planning
