EXILED MEMORIES

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

in a quiet place

deep in my heart

hidden from my soul

locked away from view

kept in the darkness

away from the light of day

or dreams in the night

are the exiled memories

I still keep of you

partitioned from my thoughts

and feelings

and the everyday life I live

the life I built

after you left

is better than the

times we spent together

it deserves the peace and

freedom from intrusion

and pain that remembering you

causes me when I think of you

I still keep secrets

hidden in my heart

locked away from view

that are still a part of me

that my soul can’t bear to see

exiled memories
of you
