AUTUMN

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

the change is so obvious, so dramatic
leaves changing color
bird’s flying south
the chill in the air

nature’s pattern
going through another cycle
the most vivid and flamboyant
of the seasons

a mixture of feelings
the joy of the harvest
the sadness of summer’s end
melancholy anticipation of winter
thankfulness for the bounty

remembrance as the year
comes to a close
another chapter
in the book of your life

the trees lose their leaves
as I have lost you
autumn changes
winter draws near

mourning the loss
of what used to be
the wind blows the leaves away
acceptance comes slowly to me

the cold of winter will numb the pain
snow hides the hurts as they heal
life without you continues
but hope for a spring I can’t feel
