Break my heart, dear Lord, for that which Your heart breaks.
Help me comprehend the gravity of sin,
That I never lose the sight of what it takes
When, unguarded, I allow the wrong to win.
Break my heart, dear Lord, when I to passion yield.
Hold back all desire if I look not above.
Let me not escape Your tender mercy’s shield;
Teach my heart to trust in Your unfailing love.
Break my heart, dear Lord, but not my spirit, please.
Bend me to Your will, and mold me with Your hand.
Humbly now I come and fall upon my knees;
Lift me from the mire, and teach my feet to stand.
