The Color of Love

by Abigail Gronway

Red is the color of love? I say, No!
For as I travel through valleys and hills,
Some red I see: in evening’s sunset glow,
In flowers, and sometimes in little birds’ bills,
Yet red is no more seen than orange or yellow.
But green! All shades of green my eyesight fills!
The leaves, the grass—if not green, they are dead.
But stare at green, then close your eyes. You see red.
