summer sun

by B

afternoon heat splashes
across parking lots,
making the air
wiggle and squirm –
squirrels lounge in the
polka-dotted shade –
turtles wade and waddle
in and out of the pond, sunlight
transforming it into a
bowl of lemonade –
blades of grass collecting
around its lips like straws –
summer tries to fan herself
with a gentle breeze, but it
hardly does anything at all

  1. Excellent imagery. Summer trying to fan itself with a gentle breeze is a cool line.

  2. How lovely! My favorite lines are “making the air wiggle and squirm” and “summer tries to fan herself.” You captured a summer day eloquently.
