THE TOUCH OF THE NEW

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

he didn’t mean to do it

he just fell into the trap

and when he finally told her

she gave his face a slap

how could you do this?

she yelled, then cried

I’ve trusted you forever

how long now have you lied?

why would you do this crazy thing

after all that we’ve been through?

he just hung his head

in silence

and then he softly said

“she wasn’t you”

beware

beware

beware my friend

be careful what you do

beware,

beware

beware of

“the touch of the new”
