Golden Butterflies

by kim blades, writer

Lazily floating

on warm, dry air

soft sun-rays coating

a beautiful pair

of golden butterflies

that alight on the petals

of a crimson hibiscus

whose slender sepals

support stamens more robust

sticky with food in disguise.

The golden pair

sup their fill

in the shimmering air

of a sunny day so still

their lift-off is a surprise.

Onwards they dance

a delicate meander

and land by chance

on white coriander

drowsy golden butterflies.
