It Ain’t Good Living

by scatterednotebooks

I know it’s ten a.m.,
no need to tell me.
I need a jukebox and some booze
enough to drown.

I’m not here for free advice,
or conversation.
So close your mouth, and
pour another round.

[Ch]
Serve it up, then serve me up.
I’m finished giving.
I have done all that I can for small reward.
Serve it up, then serve me up.
I’ve had enough; I’m giving up.
If there’s one thing on my mind,
it ain’t good living.

Just pour another drink,
and let me stew here.
I want to think about my place
on this good earth.

I’ve tried to do my best;
you’d never know it.
It seems the harder that I work,
the less I’m worth.

[Ch]
Serve it up, then serve me up.
I’m finished giving.
I have done all that I can for small reward.
Serve it up, then serve me up.
I’ve had enough; I’m giving up.
What’s on my mind tonight,
it ain’t good living.

I started this years ago (late 90s). When I found it in my notebook, it ended with the line “it ain’t good livin’.” I think it’s amusing that at the bottom of the note book after the last line, is “(Another word and I will Reach across and).” I find it rather interesting to write from the perspective of a fictional situation, not that I don’t relate to much of the sentiment, or know people who can relate…. I finished this tonight.

As always, I welcome your comments. Thanks for reading! ~ Linda
