At Night

by kim blades, writer

Night begins with the sun’s descent

and the moon’s ascent

with the evening star close by

shining like a firefly.

The moon rises and blooms

the breeze whispers and croons

to the smiling white flower

riding high in heaven’s bower.

At night darkness is not king

for the moon and stars light to it bring

in sparkling beams of silver fluorescence

nymphs and fairyfolk are present.

They dance and sing and play the harp

innocent, happy and free as a lark

moving in beauty, like the night

while human’s slumber until daylight.

  1. Thank you. I wrote it late last night when I couldn’t sleep because it was too hot inside so I went outside and sat with the fireflies under the moon and imagined fairies dancing nearby.
