Cold, Cold Heart

by mzanemcclellan

I had been
out in the cold
too long
when she called me in.
My extremities
we’re completely
numb.

She held me close,
sharing her warmth.
For a while
I still felt
nothing at all.
She radiated
like a cozy fireplace
her love glowed
in the jade of her eyes,
sparkled in her
snowbright smile.
Slowly my feeling
returned,
at first an itch,
then a tingling,
and lastly
an ache
that brought tears.
I am unsure if I cried
from the pain ‘s surcease,
or for the cpmfort
I had never known before.
I still wonder why
I’m back out in the cold.
