Three Alpacas

by Jem Croucher

We had a walk in the forest
and the woods round about
The weather was warm
and the sunshine was out
Then full of high spirits
it was back for some brunch
as it was too late for breakfast
and too early for lunch

But later on whilst we rested
from exertions incurred
A whoop of delight
from the kitchen we heard
And rushing in to see what
all the fuss was about
Each one of us laughed
with sheer joy and a shout

For there just outside
three Alpacas had come
to pay us a visit
in the late morning sun
Two browns and a white one
with new hairstyles it seemed
gave each of us pleasure
and joy as we beamed

They stayed for a while
and had a bit of a chat
just passing the time
about this, about that
So we took every advantage
of those moments of bliss
For it’s not every day
you get visits like this

The log cabin we hired at the edge of the Sandy Balls holiday village in the New Forest last weekend bordered the field where the resident Alpacas lived. Seems that most days they took themselves for a walk along a path from the field which took them alongside the kitchen window of our cabin. The whoop of delight from my daughter as she glanced up to see an Alpaca looking back at her through the window as she was washing up was one of absolute joy. A very magical few moments.
