An Angel

by K. T. Dibert

Some say,

An angel was sitting in the passenger seat;

Sometimes, I believe it, too.

Some say,

The good only goes for so long;

The well will dry up soon.

Whether it rains or shines,

Someone is on my side:

Sam Jarolim who sadly died,

Was probably sitting along for the ride.

Some say,

An angel was sitting in the passenger seat;

Sometimes, I believe it, too.

Sometimes, bad things happen –

my angel saw me through.

If all the good has gone away,

What will that prove?

And, if all the bad is still here,

What good will that do?

It has been said,

All happens for a reason:

Though, the reason for their happenings

Isn’t reason enough.

Everyone knows “Life ain’t no crystal stair…”,

It ain’t all fair: living is tough.

The journey of Life is a living dream;

Nothing you see is exactly as it seems.

The divine waxed, waned and pined for a soul – mine.

It just wasn’t, just wasn’t my time.

A miracle is an extraordinary coincidence:

An instance of magic for

Mortals to see.

This crash, this dash was a tragedy:

Don’t you see, some things

Are meant to be.

Some say,

An angel was sitting in the passenger seat;

Sometimes, I believe it, too.

Some say,

An angel was sitting in my passenger seat;

Sometimes, I believe it was you.

  1. omg. such powerful words and imagery x

  2. Wistfulpoet, It is a powerful napkin poem 🙂

    • Why thank you! It doesn’t take big words to cause a big reaction.

      • No, not at all…it takes a spontaneous writer such as yourself!

      • Feel free to check out other poems, stories and prose…a great deal of it is depressing, but I have been faced with a lot at a very early age so it is understandable. But, um, thank you very much: I take that as a mighty compliment (:

  3. Great poem. I think we all could have a guardian angel.

    • All we really need is for Something or Someone to look out for us: this is a dangerous world we live in.

      • A very dangerous world.

      • Though, it is no more dangerous than it has ever been; we as a society are just far more conscious and aware of all the evil things happening around us…with the internet, innumerable cameras, television, etc…

  4. Everything has already been said, a lovely poem.
