Black-eyed Susan

by Jem Croucher

I’m not that sure that Susan
deserved the black eye that she had
For she was really pretty
Shone by herself and wasn’t bad

She wore her yellow frock with pride
dancing daily with the sun
and was the centre of attention
with mostly everyone

So where the black eye came from
we will probably never know
Suffice to say that Susan
has a beauty here to show
