Idols of Gods

by Richard Rensberry, author at QuickTurtle Books® and

Once it was noble
to defend your name, to kill a man
that would dishonor your grave,
once it was honor
to conquer your foe
and rename the land that war bestowed.

Swords have been forged
and honed to destroy, borders have failed
and armies deployed. In the landscape of death
nations have died
while the victor’s flag on parapets fly.

Lands have been claimed
since the beginnings of time,
given names like Syria, France and the Rhine.
Men have laid stake
to rivers with blood, terraced the steppes
with their idols of Gods.                                                                                                                           .

  1. Are our eyes opening at last ? I think there have always been people who doubted this was the way to go. Maybe they are becoming more numerous now.

  2. The world is no longer flat, is it?
