Multiplied by Eternity

Heaven: YES  Hell: NO

Spiritual Conflict

I cannot conceive of eternity or the concept of forever.

Just imagine separation, seeing my loved ones never.

Death and separation from family and God, would a nightmare be.

Isolated for the rest of time would be hell, I agree.

When strange noises and sounds wake me in the night

Scare me half to death and give me such a fright.

Shaking inside and horrified, multiplied by eternity,

Terrified for the rest of time, would be hell, I agree.

Broken arms, ankles, wrists, hips, and knees

Hurting so badly you cry with desperate pleas.

Aching and searing pain, multiplied by eternity,

Crying  and screaming in pain, would be hell, I agree.

When the temperature outside is Africa hot, and your face will surely burst,

Trying to swallow but you can’t, choking from sheer thirst,

Boiling, Burning in your own skin, multiplied by eternity,

Tossed about in the Lake of fire, would be hell, I agree.

Embarrassed  feelings hurting so badly your heart will surely break in two.

Someone you trusted took your love, and nothing they’d promised was true,

Rejected,  alone and hurting, multiplied by eternity,

Violated and  wounded, would be hell, I agree.

Striving to do your very best and it still is not good enough

Disheartened, disappointed,  and brokenhearted is certainly very tough,

Dreams tattered and destroyed, multiplied by eternity,

Discouragement and defeat, would be hell, I agree.

Waking up running and running, and cannot find your way,

Held in a world of enemies, desperately trying to get away,

Wandering and lost, multiplied by eternity,

Fearful, afraid,  and adrift, would be hell, I agree.

Combined and experienced, multiplied by eternity?

Hell is surely all this and more, is that what I want to go through?

Doing exactly what I want, no one can tell me what to do!

Are autonomy and selfish schemes worth an eternity in hell?

Just ask Christ to forgive your sins and come in your heart to dwell.

Now and forever you’ll cry no more and surrounded by mercy you’ll be.

Comfort, joy, and peace, encompassed by his grace, multiplied by eternity,

Sitting at the feet of the Savior, surrounded by His love, will surely be heaven, I agree.

Lord Jesus , come quickly!

When I was about nine or ten years old, our pastor drove a carload of us to church camp. We left about five pm and so it was dark most of the way to the camp on the other side of Texas.  I was in the front seat and the others in the back seat went to sleep. I had a burning question that I finally got up the nerve to ask my pastor. My voice shaking,”What is hell going to be like? ” He just sat there for the longest time and then started talking. What he said had a profound effect on me to this day.

He asked if I was afraid of the dark. I told him I was. He said Multiply that by eternity.  He asked if I’d ever been so hot I got sick and oh so thirsty. I told him I had. He said to multiply that by eternity.  He asked me if I had ever been hurt by one of my friends and  felt all alone and cried. I told him I had and he said to multiply that by eternity. He asked if I had ever had a broken bone or a cut that hurt really bad. I told him I had and he said to multiply pain by eternity. He asked if I had ever been burned. I told him I had and it hurt. He said to multiply that by eternity. He asked if anyone had ever called me names or laughed at me.  I told him they had. He said to multiply it by eternity. He asked if I had ever been really embarrassed because I did something and everyone found out. I said I had. He told me to multiply it by eternity. He asked if I had ever beendepressed or really sad about something that I couldn’t quit thinking about it. I said I had. He told me to multiply it by eternity.  He asked if I had ever been lost from Mom and Dad and I told him I had.He said to multiply that fear of being separated by eternity. Then, he paused and waited …. Then, very softly he said,”Take all those horrible, bad feelings and imagine feeling all of them all the time forever.  That’s what hell will be like, forever.  I sure don’t want to feel like that forever, do you?”  I said,” No, I  sure do not want to go to hell!!!”
