Handful of Water

by Venkat

In happy eyes
My hands fell in love
With the plant of knowledge

The time came
I poured my river of joy
in one handful of water

Then the Sun rose
Drinking those clouds
And I poured my river of joy
in one handful of water

Then the clouds bent
Flooding the earth
And I poured my river of joy
in one handful of water

Then the weeds danced
To poison the roots
And I poured my river of joy
in one handful of water

Then the leaves drooped
Held by veins, of melancholic fears
And I poured my river of joy
in one handful of water

Then my river froze
Still, in shock, bereaved from words
