To Paris, With Love

by A. L. O'Prunty

~ Dear Heart ~ To Paris, With Love

Night falls on the City of Lights –

The navel of the world,

Somber are the streets

Void of jovial activity

A eerie sense of loss, palpable-

Even the buildings seem to weep

For the pain, and anguish endured
Defiant til the end

The national anthem wafts

High above the barbaric

Resounding throughout the world

As a beckon, and the world rises

In one accord

From north to south

East to west

To defend her honour;

Paris, the City of Love, Light:
Dear heart, you sweetest of souls

Weep not though your heart bleeds

Soon the sun will rise, darkness dispel

Your true essence resurrected

Fleeing this valley of despair
Melancholy is a dark drape

Tightening as a shroud; all consuming

Confining our hopes and dreams

Within the coffin of the mind;

New ones must be conceived, birthed
Dear heart, you sweetest of souls

Weep not though your heart bleeds

Soon the sun will rise, darkness dispel

Your true essence resurrected

Fleeing this valley of despair:
Stand strong in your truth

Your convictions

The world rises in one accord

Lifting you in payer, song

Ready to defend your honour!!
