Stop Light – Terzanelle

by Georgia

In the rain

along a lonely road
driving under the rain
water and traffic flowed

and then, memories of a train
of another age and day
seeped into my brain

everything then seemed so grey
I remember a flashing red light
and a locked up sidewalk cafe

I took the last train that night
running away from my troubled life
after yet another  fight

after years of useless strife
it no longer really mattered
to be his loving patient  wife

in grey the streets were splattered
my morale was rent and tattered
and a distant stoplight glowed
in the rain at the end of the road
