‘Three-Ring Circus’

Carnival
music plays
Round and round it goes.
In and out of ears
Washing over brains.

Evil abounds
Deeds of darkness
Multiply in the shadows
Alleys—no longer necessary.
For day has become as night
And night as day
Amid the fluorescent glow
that intrudes the heavens.

Lure
Of designer paper
Numbered and counted
And pooled.
Stacks stacked together
Umbrella people wanting
To make rain,
Cheese!

Masks made up
Cakes, patches of illusion
Desire caught up in mirrors.
Hours invested in self-gazing
Home, vehicle, passing windows
Every moment one more opportunity to fix.

Carnival
music plays
Round and round it goes.
In and out of ears
Washing over brains.
