There was a rip within my heart
when you did depart
A tear that I do wear
Now that you’re no longer near—
Still I hold you dear.
Blood rains down
Engulfing the butterflies
Burying them in the pit of my stomach.
The decrepit hand of stress stretches—
Its creaky crooked fingers—
out towards my innards
Clenching its fist—
Constricting my insides out.
But I don’t let my inside out
For if the in were to be out
I couldn’t go out.
There remains a rip within my heart
On account of your departure
I miss your presence, yet
Reflect with joy
On all of our shared laughter.
Now that you’re thereafter
I hope the best for your soul
One day I’ll take the trek also
And only then will I know.
Until then,
I will wear this tear
Because you’re no longer here
Yet—
Still I hold you dear.
