Stealing Summer

by Jem Croucher

September stole the summer
and took some green away
Then revealed its hoarded treasure
with some gloating yesterday

It’s started turning greenery
into orange, red and gold
But it blasted us with sunshine
‘Cos it’s clever and it’s bold

September pilfers that we love
but turns it into treasure
Threading summer into autumn
With some sunshine for good measure
