A song for sunset

by Jem Croucher

Liquid gold on the riverbed
poured out by the setting sun
As it waves a fond farewell
to a day that’s now undone

Dusk falls over Shoreham
underneath an azure sky
blending in with reds and golds
as its lover happens by

And as evening falls o’er darkened sea
they meet there hand in hand
The daytime bride, the evening groom
upon the dampened sand

This is a song for sunset
A lovers’ sweet refrain
Sung by Summer’s dulcet tones
As evening falls again
