Lovers & the Sea

by Lakshmi

maybe i’ll return to port one hazy stormy night
oh but don’t wait for me you need to live this life

the sailors they disappear into horizons wide
and i long for all the freedom i have been denied
voyagers sail their river rafts trailed by tidal force
following no compass, map, no route, nor course
and i’ve dreamed for years of cutting free my ties
life and love swallowed up by the hungry sky
i’ve dreamed of all the secrets that wash up ashore
in fragments, in silver pieces, i need to see them whole
i want to drift till i am lost and find my lighthouse stark
shining like an angel flame amidst the tempest’s arc

maybe i’ll return to port one hazy stormy night
but don’t wait for me don’t wait for me
you need to live this life.
