Passion Undone

by Peter Notehelfer

The old cherry tree
Too long gone unpruned
Greets spring without blossoms
The life is gone from all the limbs
Its branches snap brittle to the touch
All branches that is except for one
Which out of its sheer obstinacy
Shouts ‘passion undone’
To a heedless world
