Make Me Smile

by Tiffany Layne

Maybe this is right, maybe this is wrong,
Maybe I live my life like a played-out country song
No turning back now, I’ve traveled way too far,
Down every back road into every empty bar
I’ve waited in the corners til your shadow came in
Then I let you make me smile and get me drunk again

Then I laugh a little loud, sing along with the band,
I even act surpised when you take me by the hand,
But tell me this, what’s one dance between two old friends?
Just one more drink, you didn’t tell me how you’ve been!
You let me carry on like that for a little while,
I can’t make myself stop because you always make me smile!

You make me smile and the butterflies turn,
I like to play with fire because I want to feel the burn,
I know one day you’ll hurt me, I know one day we’ll end,
But when you make me smile, I come alive again.

You call me in the morning, I made it home just fine,
Why do I regret it that we never cross the line?
I wanna be so bad but I’m stuck on being good,
I wanna feel the things my body says I should,
My brain is screaming, the consequences are real,
There’s a price to pay for all the passion that I feel,
But you make me smile and the butterflies turn,
I like to play with fire because I need to feel the burn…
