Wandering

McGee at Deception Pass

My Yellow Dog
   needs the leash
   to keep him home
Such a good dog too
doesn’t chew the carpet
   nor mess in the house
   plays nicely with the cat
   barks only at burglars
retrieves a tennis ball
snores if he is asleep
   to keep him home
   I need to leash
My Yellow Dog

My Yellow Dog
   is not a bad dog
   I think he loves me
I know that I love him
I’ve loved him five years
I will for five years more
   He goes everywhere I go
he sees fish before I do
from a perch in the bow
Once he spied a bear
   to keep him home
   I need to leash
My Yellow Dog

“When is it we come to the realization

that all things are wandering away?”
~ Charles Wright
