whiskey in a teacup

by amongmyfrivolousthoughts

He met her at a bookstore
Lost in millions of books and
Tangled in a thousand lives
She wore ugly red glasses
With mismatched old shoes
She seemed at first glance
To be just another lost girl
She was a thin golden slice
Of unadulterated happiness
A fleeting glimpse of heaven
She plucked out the splinters
In his heart and used them
As tinder to light his world
Ablaze and then she danced
With him in the dying flames
She wandered off at daybreak
Like a pixie scattering dust
In a nursery rhyme forest and
Leaving behind mundane reality
Her scent on his pillows, a wisp
Of moonshine and a faint, fading
Lipstick stain on her coffee mug
