~ Mother Said… ~

by A. L. O'Prunty

~ Mother Said… ~

The first cry of her babies
Was like poetry to her ears;
Each unique, distinct

Later in life we’d laugh
Her recalling I cried the loudest;
Born a poet

With a unique, distinct
Cry of true convictions
Penned in crayons

Independent thoughts
Scribbled from the color wheel
On scraps of paper

Misspelled words and all
Mother, loved poetry,
Especially Proverbs and Psalms

And the first cry of her babies.
