Rain – Syllabic Verse – January 15, 2015

by Georgia

The Rain

When the clouds lay very low
(shyly hides the sun)
sharp wind rolls past leafy trees,
soon the rain will fall.

The first drops fall one by one
splotching on the road,
drenching hapless travelers
quickly to the bone.

The birds quiver in the trees
under those wet sheets
chirruping in lusty tones
as the rain comes down.

When the rain falls overlong
birds and beasts agree
’tis better to find shelter
under eaves or rooves.
