Expectations set

but not always met

When grand propositions

carefully laid out

are not quite

When the finish line remains

just out of reach

And the best intentions

fall short

in reverse

a trail

of disillusion

Each failure

scrolls across

the sky

Announcing defeat

Like fireworks

across a cluttered battlefield

Weary and wounded

A shuddered sigh

wracks a

tired mind

with each beat of a heart

Resilient warriors carefully reconsider

and trace missteps

gathered along the way

searching for footprints on a storm ravaged shore

Seeking the strength

to try again

another day

Even if today

is not

that day

  1. Great last lines: “Even if today is not that day.”

  2. Seems we are always somewhere between disillusion and resolution . . . I like your poem! Blessings . . .
