Halibut Tacos

by Peter Notehelfer

From the vantage
of the window the sea
is a carpet on which toy boats
ride waves that neither rise nor fall
the masts held in place by white lines
their blue sails neatly folded in their slips

while on the table cloth of white linen
thin blue plates that match the sails
bear their toy halibut tenders
on dry crests of tortilla
all salsa garnished
