Grief-
I know grief-
My only constant
A cloud
Shadow
Ever present
Shocked into numbness
By its arrival
Disbelief screams
From a depth
Before unknown
Denial stands astute
Face in hands shaking
Body near convulsing
Fear flecks the skin
Takes up residence within…
Alone? Am I alone?
My sense of safety
Forever silenced…
Life stuck on auto-pilot
Going round
And round, and round
Mechanical
A continuum
A vortex
The sapping of the soul –
Broken spirit
Yet in griefs wake,
Empathy
Compassion
And the ability to extend
A helping hand
As experience teaches
Lessons on acceptance
And letting go
Listen, heed
Grief, overwhelming
Can and will consume
Rise! I say
Your pain
Has a role to play!
