In the blink of an eye

by Jem Croucher

DSCN5102 - Version 2

Boarded up dereliction
Take the place of the streets
Where sticky faced children
Played on corners with sweets
Now overgrown spaces
Beside stumps of seats
All gone in the blink of an eye

There’s a housing estate
Where once there were fields
Graffiti covered walls
Hide industrial shields
Dereliction festers
For developers yields
All gone in the blink of an eye

But in a crack in the wall
Is a small yellow flower
Rising up, taking over
Causing breeze blocks to cower
And the filthy, blemished
Concrete it glowers
All gone in the blink of an eye
