On the Sideboard

On the Sideboard

A graceful pitcher & small bowl
brought home from Assisi

The round wry face
of a young Joshua in summer
[black & white & framed in red]

Two white`washed wooden angels
skirting wine`red candles
in short pewter holders

The sun`shine brightness
of young Rosie’s girlish grin
[in color & framed in black]

A green lamp & stained shade
ours now these 45 years
[still unplugged]

A small wicker`basket
with a faded red papier bow
containing cards & old photos

The girls’ Thanksgiving bouquet
of tiny irises & tiger lilies
in a green glass vase

A well`read copy
of the Steerforth edition of
A Poem A Day

All these held in place
by a red`checkered cloth
beneath Rie Muñoz’ Noah’s Ark 89
[matted white & framed in blue]
