Who We Are – a villanelle

It isn’t easy to change who we are
We all have to make choices in life
But we have to know what we want.

We are a product of our environment
We imitate those we grew up with
It isn’t easy to change who we are.

As we grow older a new path we find
It many not lead where we thought
But we have to know what we want.

We get advice from so many today
After all we live in an electronic age
It isn’t easy to change who we are.

Even with friends and family helping
We make and even repeat our mistakes
But we have to know what we want.

At times others convince us to change
Maybe the walk away, not looking back
It isn’t easy to change who we are
But we have to know what we want.
