Rainy day hindsight

by Jem Croucher

Yesterday it rained and rained
And, with hindsight, had I known
For all the good I did at work
I should have stayed at home

I was sodden to the very core
By the time I reached the station
And sitting in wet jeans all day
Does nought for concentration

I managed a few hours but
My heart just wasn’t there
And my mind kept thinking ‘cocoa’
And of drier things to wear

So if when setting out to work
The heavens open on your head
It’s sometimes best to stay at home
In the warmth instead
