~ No Place to Hide ~

by A. L. O'Prunty

In the vale dense fog was rising
Creeping ghostly about the trees
And the night owls eyes were glowing
Stalking his prey tenaciously

A snap of twig a rustle of leaf
Intensified the eerie scene
My imagination began running wild
After-all, this night was Halloween!

In a state of frisson
Ghostly tales played out
Of goblins, ghouls and witches
Within my mind I had no doubt

I imagined the veil thinning
When spirits would take flight
To taunt and tease anything but please
These demons of this night

Shades from Hades rising
Graves burst open wide
Running from myself
I had no place to hide!
