What’s In a Word

by Peter Notehelfer

A word is life
It is beauty
It is power
It is love

A grain of sand
Turned delicately
In a poor poet’s hand

A precious pearl
Purchased only
By patient pilgrimage

Unsettling inertia
Pricking the senses
Stirring the Spirit

Where it comes from
Where it goes
No one really knows
Nor does it matter

For the moment
It is but the word of God
