Still Spring Cleaning In August – A Love Poem

by Ellespeth

Still Spring Cleaning In August

In the closet stays
the glittered
Christmas flats
from rituals
of long ago
along with the last
bohemian skirt
mother patched for me
and patched again
– these must remain
untouched
because they are a link
to all that was.

Everything we touched today
is fragile.
Nothing was rotted.
We’d seen to that
long ago
when we wrapped it
in tissue
as soft as our lives were
then.
